Rene Muñoz, Acting AUSTR

Acting Assistant United States Trade Representative for Congressional Affairs

Rene Muñoz serves as the Acting Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Congressional Affairs. His office manages relations with Congress for the U.S. Trade Representative and acts as a point of contact for staff and Members of Congress to ensure that our trade policy is responsive to their needs and interests. Previously, Mr. Muñoz served as Deputy Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Congressional Affairs.

Prior to joining the Obama Administration, Mr. Muñoz spent over twelve years working in the U.S. House of Representatives. He has served in three different Congressional offices in a variety of positions including Legislative Director, Appropriations Associate, and Deputy Chief of Staff. Muñoz has also worked on political campaigns in Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania.

Mr. Munoz was born in Los Angeles, CA and raised in El Paso, TX. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from New Mexico State University and in 2011 completed U.S. Air Force Air Command and Staff College.
