Ambassador Kirk traveled Cairo, Egypt to meet with Egyptian government officials and business leaders. During his meetings, Ambassador Kirk discussed topics relating to bilateral and multilateral trade, agriculture, labor, and the environment.
On Monday, March 22, Ambassador Kirk met with Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif, Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Rachid Mohamed Rachid and Egyptian Minister of Investment Mahmoud Mohieddin. Ambassador Kirk also participated in a roundtable discussion with members of the Business Leaders Forum, and joined Minister Rachid in a joint press conference.
On Tuesday, March 23, Ambassador Kirk met with Egyptian Minister of Agriculture Amin Abaza. Ambassador Kirk also gave remarks at the Egypt AmCham.
In 2009, exports to Egypt totaled $5.3 billion. The top export categories in 2009 were: machinery, aircraft, cereals (corn and wheat), mineral fuel and oil, and miscellaneous grain, seed and fruit (soybeans). Top U.S. exports of agricultural products in 2008 totaled $2.1 billion, the 8th largest U.S. agriculture export market. Leading categories include: wheat, coarse grains and soybeans.
