U.S. Trade Representative Kirk Comments on House Ways & Means Legislation Regarding Russia PNTR
Washington, D.C. – United States Trade Representative Ron Kirk commented today following the introduction of bipartisan legislation in the House of Representatives to terminate Jackson-Vanik status for Russia and Moldova, which will allow the granting of Permanent Normal Trade Relations to those countries. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) and Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) are co-sponsoring the bill, which will be considered by the full Ways and Means Committee next week.
"America’s businesses and workers want to receive the full benefits of Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organization from day one. We are glad that the leaders of the Ways and Means Committee recognize this and we applaud their action today,” said Ambassador Kirk. “More exports to Russia will mean more American jobs here at home. We look forward to working with Congress to put a final bill on the President’s desk as soon as possible.”
