WASHINGTON - United States Trade Representative Robert B. Zoellick today issued the following statement on Senate Finance Committee approval of Trade Promotion Authority:

"The Senate Finance Committee's strong vote for Trade Promotion Authority demonstrates solid, bipartisan support for trade liberalization and U.S. economic leadership in the world. The President is pushing a full trade agenda of global, regional, and bilateral trade initiatives to open opportunities for American farmers, workers, families, and businesses. This support is essential for the President to strike the best deal for America at the negotiating table.

"I want to thank Chairman Baucus, Senator Grassley, and the Senate Finance Committee for moving quickly in the wake of last week's House approval of Trade Promotion Authority legislation. We urge the Senate leadership to draw on this bipartisan vote to complete action on TPA by the end of this year, demonstrating our common interest in advancing America's economic prospects and world leadership."
