WASHINGTON - United States Trade Representative Robert B. Zoellick today announced the appointment of Christopher A. Padilla as Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Liaison.

"I'm pleased that Chris Padilla is joining USTR, where he will lead our public outreach efforts, represent us with state and local governments, and work to improve the effectiveness of the U.S. trade advisory committee system," said Ambassador Zoellick. "Chris's demonstrated skills in working with coalitions and developing strategic communications initiatives will be invaluable as we push forward with the Administration's ambitious trade agenda."

For the past twelve years, Mr. Padilla has worked in a variety of senior international trade positions at Eastman Kodak Company, Lucent Technologies, and AT&T. He played a leading role in the coalitions supporting passage of Trade Promotion Authority and permanent normal trade relations with China. Padilla has served on several USTR trade advisory committees since 1996.

Prior to coming to Washington in 1990, Padilla worked in international marketing and business development for AT&T. He holds an M.A. in international economics and foreign policy from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and a B.A. in international studies from Johns Hopkins University.
