WASHINGTON - United States Trade Representative Rob Portman today applauded President Bush's announcement of his intent to nominate Karan K. Bhatia to be Deputy United States Trade Representative. Mr. Bhatia is currently the Assistant Secretary for Aviation and International Affairs at the Department of Transportation.

"Karan Bhatia will bring to USTR a rich background in the government, the private sector and academia. His proven skill in negotiating agreements around the world will be crucial in advancing the President's trade agenda to help open foreign markets to U.S. exports and level the playing field.
