U.S. exports of merchandise to Australia totalled $13.1 billion in 2003, up $1.3 billion from the 1999 level of $11.8 billion. Over the 1999–2003 period, Australia was the eighth largest U.S. growth market, as measured by dollar increases in exports. In 2003, Australia ranked 14th among all foreign markets for U.S. goods.

Thirty states exported more than $100 million in goods to Australia in 2003. Five of these states exported more than $500 million, and two exported merchandise worth more than $1 billion.
