09/11/2011: In September 2011, at Round 8 of the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations in Chicago, IL, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative issued a white paper outlining a new USTR strategic initiative entitled “Trade Enhancing Access to Medicines (TEAM).” TEAM is designed to deploy the tools of trade policy to promote trade and reduce obstacles to access to both innovative and generic medicines, while supporting the innovation that is vital to developing new medicines and achieving other medical breakthroughs.

5/3/2011: Ambassador Marantis and ambassadors representing Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) countries briefed reporters during a roundtable discussion at the United States Chamber of Commerce. Ambassador Marantis discussed the significant progress made to date in the negotiations and the ongoing efforts to conclude a TPP agreement that serves as a pathway to Asia-Pacific regional economic integration and that will help support the creation and retention of jobs in the United States and the other TPP countries. Following the reporter briefing, Ambassador Marantis delivered remarks at a reception in honor of the ambassadors of the Trans-Pacific Partnership countries.

4/20/2011: Deputy Assistant USTR for Southeast Asia and the Pacific and Deputy Lead Negotiator David Bisbee conducted a webinar titled, “The Trans-Pacific Partnership: Expanding Business Opportunities in the Asia Pacific Region.” The one hour webinar focused on providing information to small and mid-size enterprises and was followed by Q&A.

On December 14, 2009, Ambassador Kirk notified Congress that President Obama intends to enter into TPP negotiations with the objective of shaping a high-standard, broad-based regional pact.

In letters to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate President Pro Tempore Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.), Ambassador Kirk said that such an agreement would help to expand American exports, supporting the creation and retention of good jobs here at home.
