Schwab Welcomes Selection of Deanna Tanner Okun as Deputy U.S. Trade Representative

December 18, 2007

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Trade Representative Susan C.
Schwab praised President Bush’s nomination of U.S. International Trade
Commissioner Deanna Tanner Okun to serve as Deputy U.S. Trade
Representative.

“Commissioner Okun’s expertise and insights on trade make
her an excellent choice for this key position.  Her eight years at the U.S.
International Trade Commissioner have provided her a unique perspective on the
tangible effects of trade in our economy.  Her background on trade issues
as a Senate aide and attorney will ensure she will hit the ground running on key
issues on the Administration’s trade agenda,” said Ambassador Schwab.  “We
have a great deal to accomplish in 2008, so I hope the Senate will move quickly
on her nomination.  I look forward to working with Commissioner Okun to
advance the President’s market-opening, pro-growth trade
policies.”
