WASHINGTON – Last week, President Trump announced a Joint Fact Sheet with the Republic of Korea and secured Frameworks for historic deals with Switzerland, Liechtenstein, El Salvador, Argentina, Ecuador, and Guatemala. These historic deals further demonstrate that President Trump can maintain tariffs to lower trade barriers while driving billions of dollars of investment on U.S. soil and unlocking new markets for American workers and producers.
President Trump’s unmatched dealmaking was quickly met with praise from American textile manufacturers, industry leaders, and lawmakers:
Steel Manufacturers Association President Philip Bell: The Steel Manufacturers Association applauds President Trump and his administration for advancing an America-First trade agenda that strengthens our nation’s economic interests through a continuing series of new trade agreements. The market access commitments and provisions designed to strengthen our supply chains are essential in the announced frameworks with Argentina, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Ecuador. These frameworks will reinforce our critical mineral supply chains and broaden the coalition to combat duty evasion and transshipment. This unprecedented wave of trade negotiations is creating a strong, dynamic environment for American manufacturing.
National Business Aviation Association President and CEO Ed Bolen: These new agreements not only reestablish equitable trade relations with the Republic of Korea and Switzerland but also enable the aviation industry to continue its major contributions to U.S. jobs and the economy.
U.S. Dairy Export Council President and CEO Krysta Harden: Central America has been a key part of that strategy of growing our exports of cheese and other dairy products and creating partnerships that have been crucial to the economic wellbeing of our dairy farmers, which is why these frameworks with Guatemala and El Salvador are particularly welcome. Ecuador has the potential to be a good market, but too often nontariff barriers have impeded access to this and other markets where opportunities exist.
National Milk Producers Federation President and CEO Gregg Doud: The frameworks the administration has negotiated with Guatemala and El Salvador position our exporters to really capitalize on that landscape during the first duty-free year of dairy trade under the CAFTA-DR trade agreement by ensuring that nontariff trade barriers don’t slow our progress.
National Council Cotton: The National Cotton Council commends President Trump for reaching frameworks for reciprocal tariff agreements with Guatemala and El Salvador. An important outcome of the framework is the removal of reciprocal tariffs for CAFTA-DR qualified textile and apparel exports from these two countries to the U.S.
Motion Picture Association Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin: We welcome today’s announcement following the meeting between President Trump and President Lee that the United States and the Republic of Korea have committed to ‘ensure that U.S. companies are not discriminated against and do not face unnecessary barriers in terms of laws and policies concerning digital services, including network usage fees.’ The MPA appreciates the tireless work of the U.S. Trade Representative and his team to resolve unfair trade practices that impact the American film, television, and streaming industry.
Information Technology and Innovation Foundation Associate Director for Trade, IP, and Digital Technology Governance Rodrigo Balbontin: The deals with Argentina, Ecuador, El Salvador, and Guatemala explicitly promote digital trade, with those countries committing to refrain from imposing discriminatory policies against U.S. companies, such as digital services taxes. The joint statement with the South Korean government goes further, explicitly banning ongoing efforts by some South Korean policymakers to target American tech companies, eliminating non-tariff barriers such as network usage fees and online platform regulations, and facilitating cross-border data transfers, including for location, reinsurance, and personal data.
Parkdale Mills Chairman and CEO Anderson Warlick: President Trump’s leadership in establishing a new trade framework with El Salvador and Guatemala is a welcome development for the U.S. textile industry. By strengthening supply-chain partnerships in the Western Hemisphere, the Administration is helping ensure that American yarns, fabrics, and finished goods remain competitive on a global stage. This forward-looking approach supports investment, protects jobs, and reinforces the integrated regional production model that has kept our industry strong for decades.
American Fashion Network CEO Jackie Ferrari: I want to thank President Trump and his administration for working so hard to secure and foster the relationship that our great nation has built with our southern neighbors. Our industry has invested and worked hard to build value between the United States of America, Guatemala and El Salvador and we applaud the opportunity the President and Ambassador Greer have given us to see these relationships grow into a prosperous future.
House Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith: President Trump and his administration’s relentless pursuit of fair trade agreements that benefit American producers resulted in yet another successful trade negotiation. I applaud President Trump and USTR Greer for another successful trade agreement framework with Switzerland that will deliver billions in new investments into our country, reduce our trade deficit, and expand access to foreign markets for American farmers and manufacturers.
Senator Pete Ricketts: I applaud the news today from @POTUS on various trade announcements. The President continues to put Americans first by opening ag markets and securing further investment in the United States. This is good news for all Americans and good news for Nebraska.
Senator Bernie Moreno: The Trump Doctrine in action. The US will no longer ignore our own neighborhood.
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer: @POTUS is driving down costs, winning on tariffs, and negotiating better than any president in our history.
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Roberto J. Gonzalez: Today’s trade deals with Switzerland and Liechtenstein prove @POTUS @realDonaldTrump’s commitment to revitalizing American jobs and production. Small partners, big impact, and a clear reminder that this Administration fights for every advantage for the American worker.
